New film quarter proposed for Camden
A district in Camden could be set to be turned into what is being described as a ‘mini-Hollywood’, with the borough council believed to have already reached a provisional agreement on the proposals.
An unnamed movie company is negotiating with the council over creating a ‘film quarter’ within the Kentish Town district of Camden. According to the Camden New Journal, the plans that have been put forward by this company would include a number of studios for filming and a special centre for exhibitions.
Several existing buildings in the area would be knocked down to provide the space. Among those that could be demolished for the £110 million-plus project are the Holmes Road council depots and the recycling centre on Regis Road. A replacement for the latter facility would be built elsewhere though.
If this project does go ahead, it is likely to attract a lot of tourists to Camden and brochure printing from shops in the borough may be needed to help showcase the different facilities to them.
It is being reported that the company behind the plans is a major one and that they would lead to many of the finest filmmakers in the world visiting Camden to shoot movies and television shows.
The details of the project are currently held by the council and further information will be made public at a later date.
