Green walkway may be set for Camden
Disused viaducts in Camden might be converted into a colourful walkway, as a designer has been appointed to take the proposed scheme forward.
James Corner Field Operations is poised to take on the challenge. This will involve cooperating with the charity Camden Highline. The hope is that the project could give a lift to London after the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Londonist, Sadiq Khan, London’s Mayor, explained that the project is:
It is thought that the initiative will be positive in terms of the provision of urban green space. There should also be some inspiration for further creative projects.
The scheme will involve plenty of partnership working. The Dutch designer Piet Oudolf is set to work on the garden aspect of the walkway, while Hew Locke is going to provide an artistic input. Meanwhile, Street Space has been given the job of consulting with the affected communities. Printing services can be useful for designers, especially when they have to communicate their ideas to stakeholders.
There is a possibility that the green walkway might spur the gentrification of neighbouring areas. Consequently, it is being considered important for those behind the development to listen to what local people have to say.
