Filmmaker to produce documentary about Camden scene
The filmmaker responsible for a successful documentary looking at tragic singer Amy Winehouse has announced that he is making a new series exploring the musical influence of Camden.
Asif Kapadia produced the film ‘Amy’ seven years ago that recounted the story of Winehouse’s short career. It received acclaim from critics and went on to be awarded the ‘best documentary’ prize at the Academy Awards. Now, he is making a four-episode series for the streaming channel Disney+ that will look closely at the many prominent music artists to come from Camden and the area’s enduring influence.
Speaking to Ham and High, Kapadia said that he had grown up in North London and that Camden has played a very big role in his life as a music fan.
He then went on to add that:
The borough of Camden is also home to many businesses that help to foster its colourful and creative atmosphere, such as graphic design companies that devise cutting edge imagery.
The development of this series was confirmed during the recent Edinburgh TV Festival. Other shows that are in the works at Disney+ include one about the Formula One team Brawn and ‘Vogue: The 1990s.’
