Camden prepares to echo Afro-Celt sounds

A one-off special concert, plus guests, to celebrate the music of the late Simon Emmerson's Afro-Celt Sound System is due to take in Camden in mid-November.

This Grammy-nominated guitarist and producer's work was cutting-edge, and has left a distinctive mark on popular culture. At the start of the 1980s, he brought together post-punk and jazz in the group Weekend, and later Working Week.

The Afro-Celt Sound System formed in the 1990s era consists of electronic and rave music, selling well over one million albums. It blended West African and Gaelic folk dance music, delivering impressive live shows. 2016 saw the release of the album The Source.

Another important contribution of Emmerson's was The Imagined Village, who will be appearing on the night. They utilise the English tradition as a motif for multi-culturalism combining electronica, folk and world music. Those involved include Billy Bragg, Eliza and Martin Carthy, Andy Gangadeen, Johnny Kalsi and Sheema Mukherjee.

Emmerson also worked with other renowned artists, notably Robert Plant, Tracy Thorn, Baaba Maal and Benjamin Zephaniah.

Tickets range in price from £37.50 and £45.00, and may be subject to a transaction fee. Poster printing can be a valuable resource for those engaged in the promotion of a future concert or musical event.

A Celebration of Simon Emmerson is set to start at 7.00pm on Friday 15th December at The Roundhouse, Camden.
