Saskatoon outing to explore local pond

Kids are often fascinated by water and the plants and animals that call it home. A trip will transport a group of budding Saskatoon naturalists to an area park to explore its pond and the creatures that can be found there.

This hands on experience will introduce youngsters to the plants, insects and other creatures that live in the pond at Pike Lake Provincial Park. The group will search for dragonflies, frogs and other creatures, and the goal is for them to have fun while they are learning.

The kids will be able to use dip nets and other equipment to help them observe pond life, and they can ask questions about their discoveries. After the visit to the pond, the group will hit the nature trail to look for poison ivy so that they will be able to identify the plant should they encounter it in the future.

The organizers of the outing have asked that parents or guardians register their child ahead of time, as spaces at the event are expected to fill up quickly. Print shops can craft basic identification guides to give out at this type of activity, alongside other services such as binding and lamination.

This year’s Young Naturalists’ Pike Lake Field Trip will be visiting the park on May 2nd. It is free to participate.

It is recommended to check with the organizers whether the event will still be taking place.
