Young budding naturalists are welcome to visit a Saskatoon venue this winter where they can engage in a hands-on environmental stewardship project.
The kids who participate in the Young Naturalists’ Bird Feeder Workshop, planned by the Saskatoon Zoo Society’s Affinity Learning Centre, will be rolling up their sleeves to create a special winter treat for their local feathered friends.
The kids will be constructing wooden bird feeders, and everyone who will be doing so is asked to bring along a hammer to use to complete their project. Due to this, each attendee needs to be accompanied by an adult. The participants will also discover how they can aid researchers and other scientists by tracking bird populations, and the event may just spark a lifelong love for nature.
Backyard bird feeders often attract common species like sparrows, chickadees and finches, but rarer birds may be seen as well. Supplying each of the learners in this type of function with a simple printed field guide will aid them in identifying the species they see, and these can be designed and produced by local Print shops.
The Young Naturalists' Bird Feeder Workshop will be taking place on November 14th. It will begin at 1:00pm, and COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed. Ticket prices start at $5 for members and $10 for non-members.
