Saskatoon keeps the information flowing

The City of Saskatoon has been honoured by Newspaper Canada for making sure information is publicly accessible; they are one of four in the province of Saskatchewan who received this honour. The Freedom of Information Audit sent 354 requests about 40 subjects to three ranks of Government; cities were rated on how open they were to these requests and how quickly they were responded to.

In addition to being helpful with requests for information, the City of Saskatoon also makes a number of reports, Forms, publications and records of decisions available to the public. Government printing services can provide whoever asks for it with any information on the running of the city that they desire, such as the Municipal Manual, the Saskatoon Transit Annual Report and audit reports. Saskatoon City Clerk Janice Mann said that:

“providing an open and accountable Government is a key element of a new business and planning model, a free exchange of information helps us reach those goals.”

Transparency in government always leads to more trust in the process from both business and the public. It makes people more interested in setting up a new business in a city where everything is straightforward and open. They see an open Government as being easier to deal with when they can see the process for themselves and are therefore more likely to invest in their money with that city. And citizens of a city feel more comfortable with a government that seems to listen to them and appears to have their best interests at heart.
