Province seeking Saskatoon retailers interested in selling alcohol

Retailers in Saskatoon that are interested in selling spirits are invited to submit an application that will allow them to do so.

The province has initiated its Request for Proposal (RFP) process, which will be used to select three locations to sell alcohol in Saskatoon as well as two in Regina. This is part of its plan to add 11 new retailers and convert the 40 that it currently maintains.

Stores in Saskatoon and Regina will be the first to come online, with requests for proposals being made in other communities over the next few weeks. According to the province, the process has been staggered in this way to help keep it as organized and efficient as possible.

Saskatchewan’s minister in charge of alcohol retailers noted that this is a big step forward in the expansion of the private system of providing for the sale of products that contain spirits to the public. He went on to say that, under the new system, consumers will have more convenience, more choice and more competitive pricing. A printer will be able to design and produce Signs and other Promotional Products for the stores that are chosen in cases like this.

Those retail establishments that are interested in submitting an application to the province to sell alcohol to the public need to do so by no later than August 8, and can send their questions by email to rfp.inquiries@slga.gov.sk.ca.
