Festival will highlight the different cultures of Saskatoon

Folkfest is returning to Saskatoon for three days this August for its 35th year.

The festival is set to feature 25 ethnic pavilions, some of which are Asia Pacific, Indian and Metis, Irish, Mesopotamian, and Scottish. They will each feature cultural dancers, traditional foods and entertainment. For example, the Asia Pacific pavilion is expected to feature Taiko drumming and a Japanese traditional tea ceremony. Many of the pavilions are also expected to have vendor' markets where they will be selling items related to the region highlighted.

To help raise interest in this annual event, the RBC Folkfest Gala is being held this July. It will feature appetizers, cocktails, live entertainment from many of the pavilions, and a silent auction.

Visitors purchase a passport that grants them entry and also access to free transportation to all pavilions. These passports can then be stamped upon entry, and will act as a souvenir.

Organizers may have approached local brochure printing companies in Saskatoon to provide them with the necessary printed passports.

Folkfest '14 is taking place throughout Saskatoon from August 14th to 16th. Passports are $15 each, but children aged 12 and under are admitted free with an adult. The RBC Folkfest Gala is being held at TCU Place on July 18th. Tickets are $40 each. To find out more about either event, call 306-931-0100.
