Spring is often seen as a season of growth and renewal, and when it comes to the Woodstock housing market, this year has been no exception. ‘Sold’ Signs, many of which have been produced by local printing companies, can be seen popping up on lawns throughout the area.
While the year may have started off slowly, May saw over 124 homes bought, which is an increase of 33% over last year’s figures. The local real estate board reports that the number of purchases has climbed to over 500 since the start of the year, which is a level that has only been seen a handful of times since the board’s inception.
Recent years have seen the construction of several massive housing developments, some of which contain more than 800 units. The demand for them is high, and sales are brisk.
Part of the reason for this increase in the need for new homes is the relocation of Toyota’s Cambridge plant to Woodstock, which has resulted in a large number of employees being transferred to the area. Sysco will also be bringing between 250 and 350 jobs to the area. Several other companies have situated their plants and offices in the vicinity, and this has resulted in the employment rates being very healthy.
Another one of the town’s attractive features is its location. Located at the crossroads of highways 401 and 403, it is within commuting distance of several larger urban centers.
The housing boom is expected to continue into the new year.
