The celebrations will use the theme “Creating Connections”, aiming to build relationships between people, organizations and businesses within the Woodstock community. The City has put together a guide for hosting Neighbourhood Gatherings, with online applications available for individuals to host their own block parties and special events. The City says one of its goals is:
“Creating connections with place. We want people to feel connected to their community, their natural environment and their heritage. We want them to become invested in this place.”
Woodstock’s Anniversary also falls on Canada Day, so the celebrations will kick off with the city’s Canada Day party in Southside Park. The day will include multiple stages of entertainment, headlined by Canadian rock icon Kim Mitchell. Young visitors can also take part in free activities as part of the Canadian Kids Zone.
The City will also be hosting a Big Fun Friendly Faceoff event pitting co-workers, friends and neighbours against each other in friendly competition. Special T-Shirts, hats, coins and other merchandise will be available to commemorate the 125th anniversary. Municipalities and organizations often use printing services to create branded clothing and other items for occasions like this.
The City of Woodstock’s 125th Anniversary celebrations will begin on July 1 and continue throughout the summer.
