This spring, Woodstock will once again play host to the Oxford Children’s Water Festival at the Pittock Conservation Area.
The event celebrates the importance water plays in the lives of those who reside in the community, both human and animal. Around 3,600 students in grade two to grade five will be able to take part. They will be given an opportunity to experience hands-on learning in how to protect the area’s supply of this vital resource.
It will be the first time it has been held in Woodstock since 2012.
The festival’s coordinator notes that she is very excited to be bringing the celebration back to the area, and hopes that those who participate will develop a deeper understanding of the need to conserve water.
The event is scheduled to begin on May 26th, and lasts for four days. There will be 48 different activities for the students to take part in. The event is made possible by the cooperative efforts of the school board, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, the County of Oxford, and several other area stakeholders. A banner printing firm will be able to create ideal decorations for this type of event.
To help celebrate the launch of the 2015 festival, students had a chance to paint wooden fish to represent a healthy water system. When it’s over, they will be displayed to raise awareness among the general public.
