Woodstock to host historic stamp showcase

This March will see the return of one of Woodstock’s longest-running events, the Oxford Philatelic Society Exhibition, which will see the gathering of stamp collectors and enthusiasts from across Southern Ontario and beyond.

The event will be the 71st annual OXPEX, and will also double as the 41st annual All Ontario Topical Exhibition, or OTEX. It will feature 10 to 15 stamp dealers, as well as competitive framed exhibits evaluated by expert judges. The exhibition aims to be a family event, with gift Bags for young stamp collectors, prize draws, and free admission and parking.

Hobby events such as these, often promoted through tools such as poster printing and social media, provide people a chance to see and purchase rare and historic items, as well as the chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.

The exhibition also serves as a lead-up to the Philatelic Society’s 75th anniversary, which will take place in 2024. In addition to its annual exhibition, the society hosts regular meetings both in-person and virtually, as well as hosting stamp sales and auctions online. The group began in 1949 with just four members and held its first exhibition at the home of an Ingersoll woman. The organization aims to connect stamp collectors and enthusiasts from across Oxford County and beyond.

The 2023 Oxford Philatelic Society Exhibition and All Ontario Topical Exhibition will take place on March 18 at St. Mary’s High School in Woodstock.
