The City of Woodstock will be marking Arbor Day this April by planting a new set of trees in the city, with residents able to volunteer to take part.
The planting program is designed to improve air quality, conserve biodiversity, and improve the physical and mental health of residents. Trees will be planted along roadways and in green spaces throughout the city. In addition, volunteers can take home a tree to plant in their own yard. Participants are encouraged to wear layered clothing and closed-toe shoes, in addition to bringing equipment such as gardening gloves, a bucket for moving mulch, and a shovel. There will be a limited amount of equipment available on site for those unable to bring their own.
The tree-planting initiative is one of multiple events Woodstock is holding to celebrate the coming of spring, including a garbage cleanup along roads and trails. Originating hundreds of years ago, Arbor Day sees trees planted in locations around the world. Events like this often use tools such as poster printing and social media to help attract volunteers. Activities like this can count for volunteer hours requirements such as those required for high school graduation in Ontario.
The City of Woodstock’s 2025 Arbor Day tree-planting will take place on the morning of April 26. Locations and further details will be announced closer to the event.
