Woodstock residents given sneak peek into local energy systems

Woodstock residents who wanted to learn more about green energy were recently given an opportunity to do so.

Woodstock Hydro hosted its second annual Green Energy Doors Open event, which gave those who came out a chance to get information about conserving electricity and also about powering their homes using sustainable methods that are easy on the environment.

Several stations had been set up where the public could fill out their “green energy passports” and find out more about wind and solar energy options, how to store energy and also how electric cars work and reduce pollution. Three electric cars had been made available for public inspection, and details about the different charging stations that are located in the area was made available. A booklet printing company can create Brochures that outline the benefits of using an electric vehicle and they can also include a map identifying local charging stations so those who choose to purchase one for themselves will find it convenient to use.

Representatives from both the City of Woodstock and Oxford County were on hand to answer questions about the 100 % renewable energy target that they have set and also the Community Sustainability Plan.

Those who visited each of the displays and had their passport completed could have their names entered in a draw to win a Goal Zero Solar Kit, which included a 13-watt solar panel that can be used to charge a laptop or power small appliances.
