Woodstock raises money for Alzheimers

The Alzheimer Society of Oxford reports that it has had another successful Walk for Memories, with Woodstock bringing in even more than it did last year.

The event was held at the Oxford Auditorium on January 31st, and raised $81,000, which is $10,000 over the year before. According to the organization’s executive director, that amount could continue to rise, as the amounts from online donations, sponsorships, and the monies that were dropped off at the organization’s office are still being tallied. Before the Walk had even begun, $40,000 had been collected.

This is the 21st year for the event in Woodstock, and Shelley Green of the Alzheimer Society of Oxford reports that she is very happy with the turnout, and wished to thank everyone who helped. Walks were also held in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg, and between the three communities, the society managed to raise over $118,000, which is well above the $114,000 goal that had been set. The top individual family was Jan Vicars, while the top family fundraiser was the Geerlinks family.

According to Green, there are more than 1,950 people in Oxford County who are living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, and part of the goal of the event was to raise awareness about these conditions. A poster printing firm can create Posters and other signage that can be displayed during this type of event, to let those who take part know how these illness can affect a person’s life and how the money they raise will be used to help.
