The Santa Claus parade is a family event designed to give children the chance to see the Big Man in Red alongside floats, marching bands and other attractions provided by the community. The city is calling on past participants to help put together this year’s parade on relatively short notice, as well as inviting applications from the community at large.
Woodstock City Council has provided a list of groups who may be interested in participating in the parade:
“We are looking for participation from dance groups, schools, church groups, sports teams, non-profit organizations, youth groups, senior groups, commercial and individual groups. The more the merrier!”
The Woodstock parade, long an annual holiday tradition, was cancelled in 2020 due to social distancing concerns. The 2021 parade was also initially cancelled during the past summer, due to uncertainty over restrictions, with a ramped-up lights display and drive-through experience suggested as alternatives.
However, earlier this month, the City Council voted to restore the parade following public demand. In addition to holiday cheer, parades like this provide exposure for local businesses and organizations, which often sponsor such parades with floats and banner printing.
The Woodstock Santa Claus Parade is now set to take place on the afternoon of December 12. More details and an exact parade route will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event.
