Woodstock’s police and firefighters recently came together for their fourth annual Lights and Sirens charity ball. More than 450 people enjoyed a fun night out and raised a significant amount of money for some worthy causes.
This year, attendees raised $34,000 for local charities. Around $15,000 went to the Red Cross, $15,000 was given to the Jump Start program, and $1,000 was given to the YWCA/YMCA, Inn From the Cold, Southgate Seniors Center, and also the Salvation Army.
The Red Cross was chosen as a recipient simply because all of the emergency response services work so closely with it and have seen the good work that it does. The donation will be used to help fund its emergency response trailer, which will be used during floods, ice storms, and other natural disasters.
Jump Start helps kids who want to get involved in sports and other activities. It helps provide equipment, clothing and other essentials. Since helping children is a big driving force behind its work, the first responders felt it was a very worthy not for profit group.
In the four consecutive years that it’s been held, the charity ball has raised more than $135,000.
