After a five-year absence, Woodstock’s Runway of Stars fundraiser will return this May, featuring real-life local heroes.
The event features local first responders and community leaders walking a high-fashion style runway in outfits provided by local retailers. Models are nominated from the local community and selected by organizers, then must plan and choreograph their walk with a partner. All models are able to take home the donated clothes. Runway of Stars will be a gala-style event featuring food from local chefs and artisans, live music, and other performances, and activities designed to raise funds. Money is also raised from local sponsors, who can contribute at different levels. The event was last held in 2019, and went on hiatus for public health reasons, but is looking to return for its 7th edition.
All money raised from Runway of Stars goes towards the Woodstock and District Developmental Services, or WDDS. WDDS provides support for people with developmental disabilities throughout Oxford County, including the Options Learning Centre, employment services, supported group and independent living, and a summer camp for youth. Fundraising events such as this, often promoted through methods such as poster printing and social media, can significantly contribute to the work non-profit organizations do in the community.
The 2024 Runway of Stars will take place at the Oxford Auditorium in Woodstock on the evening of May 2.
