The South Gate Centre of Woodstock will be opening up its new expanded area this November with a special concert by Big Bandemic.
The concert will feature the area big band group, a 17-piece group with two crooners and a ten-member string section. The band will be playing an assortment of hits from the big band era, ranging from the 1920s to 50s, transporting listeners back in time. The event will also feature a dance floor that will be open all nice for those looking to get moving.
The concert event, dubbed “In the Mood” will be making use of the newly renovated and expanded South Gate Centre space. The Centre is a nonprofit space in Waterloo that offers programming aimed at seniors and residents over the age of 50 including fitness and art lessons. The expansion includes a new lounge and is supported by public donations and a capital expansion.
Big Bandemic is a London, Ontario-based group, which includes performers young and old such as trombonist and founder John Thompson, prolific jazz guitarist John Kenny, and former Western University instructor Gwyn Beynon. Throwback musical acts like this often use vintage graphic design and phrases on advertising material to help attract a distinctive audiences.
In the Mood will take place on November 29 at the South Gate Centre in Woodstock. A second Big Bandemic concert at the Centre is scheduled for next February.
