Woodstock area to host curling showdown

The best curlers from across Ontario will be gathering in Oxford County this January, as the Ontario Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships are hosted by the Ingersoll Curling Club.

The two tournaments will determine the province’s representatives in the prestigious Tournament of Harts and Brier bonspiels, and the possibility of moving on to the 2024 World Championships in Nova Scotia. Mike McEwen’s team representing the Royal Canadian Curling Club was victorious at the men’s event last year and will be looking to defend their title, as will the Ottawa rink featuring Tracy Fleury and Rachel Homan.

Other teams will have qualified from regional events and through national rankings, with a full list of teams to be announced in the lead-up to the tournament. Twenty-four squads are expected across the men’s and women’s tournament.

The teams will compete in round-robin competition with the top four quartets in each division moving to a knockout round. The Curling Championships will also aim to be a festival-like event, with live entertainers and food vendors. The event will be looking to highlight local businesses through sponsorship and partnerships, with business logos reproduced on banner printing, jerseys, and much more, as well as showcase the work the Ingersoll Curling Club does to promote the game in the area, including cities such as Oxford and Woodstock.

The 2024 Ontario Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships will take place at The Flight Exec Centre in Dorchester from January 22 to 28. All matches will be live-streamed on Ontario Curling’s website.
