The Tilsonburg-based festival, which was held annually between 2011 and 2019, is named after a local legend that tells of how town founder George Tilson wanted to come back as a turtle to visit the town. The goal is to show off how far Tilsonburg and other Oxford County towns such as Woodstock have come. Past editions have featured three days, with the first evening being a block party and the second two days filled with family activities, but the return edition will combine all three days into one, with street and family entertainment throughout the day and a concert in the evening.
In addition to live music and buskers, the festival will also feature local vendors, which will set up a street market-style area. Local businesses often provide special deals or Promotional Products to attract traffic during festivals like this. Broadway will be blocked off to allow the festival to take place, with over 7,000 visitors and 60 participating businesses expected. Musical acts and participating businesses will be announced in the lead-up to the event.
In a statement, event organizer Savannah Todd expressed enthusiasm for the event:
“With the support of the Town, the Downtown BIA and businesses and organizations in Tillsonburg and surrounding area we expect an exciting one-day TurtleFest that will make George proud of the town that he founded more than 150 years ago.”
TurtleFest 2023 will take place in downtown Tilsonburg on Saturday, June 17. Attendance will be free for all.
