Woodstock area charitable event to be held virtually

An event in the Woodstock area that encourages charitable acts and donations will go ahead this June, but with an online format.

The Day of Caring event is operated by United Way Oxford, and it typically involves selecting a central project, or projects, for people to volunteer on. This year’s Day of Caring encourages smaller projects and simple acts of kindness, from running a socially distanced canned food drive to picking up litter in the neighbourhood. United Way is also encouraging donations to its campaigns, in particular Supplies for Students, which provided 1,191 children with school supplies last year, and a Day of Caring initiative to provide 100 meals for those in need.

The last in-person edition of Day of Caring, held in 2019, involved more than 100 volunteers, whose work was divided between 13 projects to benefit Woodstock, the rest of Oxford County and beyond. Alike the 2020 event, which was also held virtually, participants will be encouraged to share their acts of kindness over social media using appropriate hashtags.

United Way Oxford helps to gather funds for charitable projects across the county. Charitable events like these, often advertised using tools like poster printing, as well as internet advertisements, can be a major part of a non-profit’s fundraising efforts.

The Oxford County Day of Caring will take place on June 3 through social media.
