While it may not be the food most immediately associated with the region, a Southern Ontario event is looking to celebrate the taste and diversity of the taco, and all for a good cause.
Tacofest will feature sixteen local restaurants, all serving their personal variation of the Mexican classic, and an equal number of Ontario craft breweries will be providing refreshment. The event will be raising money for Community Support Connections, a local charity that describes itself as ‘Meals on Wheels and More’.
Tacofest will take place in Kitchener and hopes to bring in food enthusiasts from the surrounding Waterloo Region, including Cambridge and Waterloo, as well as nearby cities like London and Woodstock.
The festival will celebrate local food culture, which often uses ingredients grown nearby to make adventurous cross-cultural meals. Such restaurants and brew pubs often use flyer printing and poster printing to advertise, as well as relying on positive word-of-mouth and social media engagement.
The event will be held on the evening of June 7 at The Museum in downtown Kitchener. The price of a ticket will get entrants unlimited tacos and beers will be available for $1 a sample. All proceeds will support Community Support Connections, which provides customized and nutritious meals to people restricted by age and disability. The organization also provides services for this potentially isolated group like personal drivers, community dinners and friendly visits.
