Print companies in Woodstock, Ontario, were on hand to support the Royal Canadian Legion in its efforts to promote its most recent Remembrance Day. Each year, the Legion holds a poppy campaign along with commemorations across Toronto to mark the Canadian war dead.
Last week, the Legion honored one of the local businesses that it has singled out for its support of their poppy campaign and news coverage to raise awareness. On March 10, Wayne Powell and Lorraine Drake, the Legion’s District D co-chair and immediate past commander, respectively, were at the offices of Toronto Community News.
The Legion was especially grateful to the Toronto Community News for covering their Remembrance Day commemorations all over Toronto and also for raising awareness of its fundraising events through editorials and ads. The Toronto Community News publishes nine newspapers in local, Toronto-area communities.
According to Powell, the staff of the Toronto Community News was always a fine pleasure to work with and always availed themselves to whatever the Legion needed.
During last week’s ceremony, the Legion honored three Toronto Community News staff in particular. The recipients were production manager Katherine Bernal, general manager Marg Middleton, and publisher Betty Carr. The three women were presented highly valuable and sentimental plaques for their work on stories covering the Legion’s events.
Even though Remembrance Day is widely acknowledged throughout Canada, the Royal Canadian Legion still work tirelessly to promote it. By using printers that are local to their target audience, such as flyer printing services in Woodstock, they can benefit from their local knowledge and maximise any fundraising opportunities.
