Pork industry meeting set for Stratford

Toronto may be known as “Hogtown”, but it’s the smaller Southern Ontario city of Stratford that will host the heavy hitters of the local pork industry this week.

The Ontario Pork Congress will hold its annual convention in Stratford, looking to attract industry figures from across the province as well as interested amateurs from nearby cities like Woodstock and Niagara. The event has highlighted the finest of swine since 1972.

The congress will include a busy showroom floor featuring the latest pork products and technologies, from recognizable consumer names like Purina to industry heavyweights like Big Dutchman and the Pig Improvement Company. There will also be seminars, celebrations and competitions like the Bacon Maker Classic, the Pork Quality Competition (formerly the Carcass Competition), and the slightly less mouthwatering Pig Art Competition and charity Hog Jog.

The 2019 edition of the Ontario Pork Congress will take place this Thursday and Friday, June 19 and 20 at the Stratford Rotary Complex. For most attendees, this will be serious business, so expect business card printing and Logo Design to be as frequent as charcuterie here.

For members of the pork industry, the congress provides an opportunity to network with others and get a sense of the latest technological developments, but the event does also market itself as providing fun for families, foodies, and anyone else looking to go ham.
