Winter is almost here for another year, and for residents of Woodstock, that means that overnight parking on its roads is no longer allowed.
This policy has been put into place from December 1st until March 31st, 2016. According to bylaw enforcement officer Greg Rabe, this is done to help make sure that the roads are clear during the night so that, should snowfall occur, the roads will be free of obstacles, making them easier to clear.
Those who leave their car or other vehicle parked overnight will be fined $45. Mr. Rabe pointed out that, should there not be a snowfall, the bylaw enforcement officers tend not to go out, but people can still receive a ticket form either the police or the Bylaw Department.
Further to this, Mr. Rabe reported to Heart FM that every year, the number of those who choose to ignore the ban gets smaller and smaller. He is pleased by this, as it means it’s easier to keep the streets clear and safe for all drivers. Signs can be posted throughout the community that remind the public about the ban and how important it can be for them to heed the rules.
Woodstock has already seen its first snow of the season, and drivers are reminded to keep an eye on the weather and act accordingly.
