Woodstock’s Bob McFarland Memorial Golf Classic will be returning this September with a full day on the links.
The event will be an 18-hole golf tournament played using scramble rules. Players compete as part of a foursome and play counting their squad’s best shot on each stroke. The tournament will be followed by a take-out barbecue rib and chicken meal provided by Woodstock restaurant Local Roots.
Players may register either individually or as part of a team, with discounts available for members of the South Gate Centre. The tournament is named after Bob McFarland, former Director of Community Services in Woodstock, who is remembered for his contributions to the community. The event has been held every year since 2014.
Proceeds from the McFarland Classic will go to the South Gate Centre for Active Adults. The centre aims to provide healthy and inspiring activities for adults over the age of 50 in the Woodstock area, and it runs fitness programs, games nights, art classes and phone-in programs to provide mental health support.
In addition to the tournament registration fees, money will be raised through an online auction. Tournaments like this are a popular way of raising money, often using tools like flyer printing and social media to reach golf lovers.
The eighth annual Bob McFarland Memorial Golf Classic will take place on September 11 at the Woodstock Meadows Golf Centre.
