Medication collection day deemed a success

Residents of Woodstock recently had the chance to drop off unused and unwanted medications at a designated collection point. The idea was to ensure that pills and medicines are disposed of properly.

Large and brightly colored Signs, made by a local company which offers banner printing services, were used to let the public know about the event at the Oxford County courthouse.

Plenty of people took advantage of the chance to get rid of both prescription and over the counter medications that they no longer needed. The drugs dropped off included everything from unused vitamins and headache remedies to antibiotics and blood pressure medicines.

Organizers of the event were very pleased with the turnout, and stressed the importance of the proper disposal of such substances. All too often they end up in landfills or being flushed down the drain or toilet, and this is very harmful to the environment.

Drop off opportunities like this happen every so often but when there isn’t one available, people are advised to take unwanted medicines and vitamin tablets to pharmacies, where staff will be able to dispose of them properly by incineration.

Those who volunteered to help with the collection cataloged and recorded the type of drugs dropped off, along with the amounts. Paperwork and containers were also recycled.

The amount of unwanted medication that was collected isn’t known at this time but there were at least two and a half large freezer Bags full. Organizers are were very pleased and declared the day a great success.
