Woodstock, Ontario’s local theatre company has finished up a successful run with the stage version of a classic film about age and relationships.
Theatre Woodstock presented a stage version of ‘On Golden Pond’, based on the acclaimed 1981 film starring Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn. The play transported viewers from the frigid Ontario winter to a summer vacation spot, which an older couple visited for the 48th year in a row. The narrative dealt with the couple being forced to take in a young boy, and the perspective he brought to their lives.
The story was brought to life for Theatre Woodstock by director Scott Rooney, producer Samantha Johnson, and stage manager Matt Thompson. The Western Ontario Drama League, adjudicating the play for regional competition, singled out Edward Patterson (who played husband Norman Thayler) and the stage design, both of which received nominations for WODL awards. Judy Hollinger also starred as Norman’s wife Ethel. The play was also warmly received by local audiences.
The Woodstock production of ‘On Golden Pond’ opened on February 8 and ran until the 16th. Local theatre shows like this often depend on the community to support their efforts, from theatre-goers to volunteer crew to local printing services helping out with materials like programs and brochure printing.
Theatre Woodstock’s next full-scale production is set to be the musical ‘Songs for a New World’, which will play this April.
