Indwell, a charity that works to provide housing in Woodstock and throughout southwestern Ontario recently brought home a big haul of donations through a virtual fundraising event.
The event, called the “Hope at Home Gala”, replaced three originally scheduled in-person fundraisers. The stream was watched by over 1,300 people and raised more than $100,000 to help Indwell continue its operations, more than doubling its announced goal.
The live stream featured speeches from Indwell staff and community members. While a virtual event may not involve the banquets typically associated with charitable fundraisers, Hope at Home made up for it with recipes and instructions to cook a gourmet meal at home.
The money raised will go towards affordable housing projects like the Harvey Woods lofts and Blossom Park apartments and townhouses in Woodstock. It boasts of hosting more than 600 tenants, and is moving ahead with 100 homes opened in the last year and over 400 in construction or pre-development.
The organization uses the efforts of volunteers and money raised from fundraising events like this gala or the fall’s That Dam Hill Charity Run. Events like these are typically advertised through flyer printing campaigns, and can help to bring communities together, even if not in person.
Indwell’s Hope at Home Gala took place in June, with the archived video now available to stream on the charity’s website.
