The annual event sees Woodstock residents purchase Blue Jays tickets at a special group rate and travel in a fleet of buses to the game en masse. The goal is to foster civic spirit and togetherness, as well as grow the profile of Woodstock.
Now in its 15th year, the game is the largest annual event attended by a municipality, with over a thousand Woodstock residents coming annually. Civic events like this typically use flyer printing and Promotional Products to both advertise and commemorate the event.
Woodstock has numerous connections to both the Blue Jays and the game of baseball. Former Jays owner Ted Rogers was once a resident of the city, and Woodstock was the home of 19th-Century player Tip O’Neill. O’Neill is still commemorated today through an award for the best Canadian MLB player, which is named after him.
This year’s Woodstock Day will take place tomorrow, April 27. Fans will attend an afternoon game between the Blue Jays and the Oakland Athletics. Woodstock communications manager Brad Janssen summed up the importance of the event by saying:
“When we go down this is an event because it’s the only game a lot of people get to throughout the year. […] It’s a six-hour endorsement for the City of Woodstock because from beginning to end we’ll be getting mentions.”
