Dachshund festival to return to Woodstock

Fans of dogs are in luck, as the popular Wienerfest Home County Festival event will be back in Woodstock for another instalment this June.

The annual event is dedicated to the Dachshund, otherwise known as the “wiener dog”, a nickname referenced in both the event’s title and its Logo Design, which features a dog presented in a hot dog bun with condiments. One of the largest single-breed dog events anywhere, Wienerfest contains activities and products aimed at small dogs and their owners. There will be a market full of vendors providing food, toys and other products for both two-legged and four-legged customers. While the event is dedicated to Dachshunds, dogs and humans of all types are welcome.

Wienerfest also features competitions, although they are a little different than a typical dog show. One of the most popular attractions is the Dachshund races, which sees the short-legged dogs racing around a track. Live auctions and costume contests have also been staples of the event.

Wienerfest was founded more than 20 years ago by Linda Collier, with the goal of encouraging pet adoption. Since then, the event has drawn in people and pooches from across Ontario and beyond, including celebrity dogs from social media, such as Blue, the event’s official host.

The 2022 edition of Wienerfest will take place on June 25 at the Woodstock Fairgrounds.
