Cyclists in Woodstock have had a chance to have their voices heard by city council.
Experts from MMM Group were hired to act as consultants to seek input from the area’s cycling community and prepare a draft Cycling Master Plan, which they then presented to the council.
The group devised a wide range of recommendations for future changes to the current infrastructure that would provide more and better opportunities for people who like to ride a bike. They also made suggestions about educating the public about the benefits of two wheeled transportation.
One of the findings was that many people have less than a 10km commute to work, which means that riding their bike back and forth is a viable alternative to using a motor vehicle. To make this easier, it was recommended that an alternative to narrow Dundas Street be found, as this would be a safer and more attractive option when traffic is heavy.
It was also suggested that signed bicycle routes be created, and one idea for these was to develop a 3-4 meter wide multi-use roadside trail system in place of the current sidewalks. It was also noted that there is an excellent system of trails around the city’s waterfront. A Print company will be able to create the signage that is needed to highlight these cycling paths.
The council will have 30 days to review the plan, and the recommendations can be implemented yearly as its budget allows.Get a Free Quote for Print
