Art centre hosts exhibit on happiness

In a time where many could use an emotional lift, Tillsonburg’s Station Arts Centre is hosting an exhibit celebrating the emotion of happiness through the works of two local artists.

Celebrate Happiness is a collaboration between George Conklin and Rita Milton. Milton uses jewellery and fibre art, in addition to abstract painting, in order to express herself. Conklin, who has previously been featured in the art galleries of Hamilton and London, is known for his use of movement and colour in his landscape paintings.

Curator Tabitha Verbuyst said that she was interested in seeing the contrast and conversation between the two artists’ work, and she added:

“Together, this is going to be an exciting show for them because it will be an interesting mix of George’s more traditional landscape style and Rita’s more contemporary, more modern abstract style. It’s going to be a fun play between the two artists to see them together.”

The Arts Centre is dedicated to highlighting work from artists in the Oxford County Area, looking to draw in art lovers from towns like Woodstock and Ingersoll. Galleries like this can help artists establish themselves in the fields of visual art and graphic design.

Instead of the usual opening night gala, the beginning of the Celebrate Happiness exhibit was marked with a series of scheduled individual meet-and-greets with the artists.

Celebrate Happiness is currently on display at the Station Arts Centre and will run until December 4.
