The Walk for Memories Alzheimer Society is hoping to raise $2.5m to help those living with the Alzheimer’s disease and other related conditions.
Alzheimer's disease affects around 500,000 Canadians, not to mention the impact it has on their friends and family. The Alzheimer Society of Canada holds its annual Walk for Memories in various communities throughout the country to raise funds for research and to support programs for those suffering from the disease and their families. The Alzheimer Society of Oxford County holds annual walks in the communities of Ingersoll, Tillsonburg and Woodstock. Last year's walk raised over $107,000.
People can take part in the Walk for Memories individually or as a team; they solicit pledges and donations from friends, family and the community at large. All of the funds raised in Oxford County go to support local programs and research. Many of those taking part in the walk will no doubt have friends or family members who are suffering from this terrible disease.
Taking part in such a walk as a team could be used as a good morale booster for local companies. Companies could sponsor a team and offer incentives to their employees who take part or who donate funds. Arranging with a Woodstock printing company to help design and Print a certificate of accomplishment to recognize those who took part is one way that employees can be rewarded.
