Waterloo punk market to hold farewell

The KW Punk Rock Flea Market will be holding its 13th edition this November, which will serve as the final edition of the show under its current management.

The event will feature a variety of independent, do-it-yourself vendors inspired by the punk ethos and aesthetics. There will be over 50 vendors offering items such as zines, pins, records and more. Confirmed vendors include Ancient Relics vintage band shirts, Countess Collectables, and Pollyanna’s Kandi Circus. Attendance will be on a pay-what-you-can basis.

To celebrate the 13th edition, the show will also feature 13 local bands live in concert. Performing artists include KW’s own Bad Eggs and Essential Letdowns and Hamilton’s Don’t Touch. The concert will run throughout the day but end by 11 p.m.

“Punk rock” markets have become a popular attraction, often using punk-inspired flyer printing and live musical performances to attract a different audience than most market events. The KW Punk Rock Flea Market was one of the first in Southern Ontario and had 13 events over 8 years. While this will be the final edition, the organizers have expressed gratitude and hope about the growing scene:

“We are blessed to see how easily accessible this has all become for the region, all the alt vendor markets and pop-ups that have flourished since our inception.”

The 13th KW Punk Rock Flea Market will take place at Maxwell’s Concerts and Events in Waterloo on November 29.
