The Vanier Sugar Festival will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of its first edition in Ottawa this March, with a traditional celebration of maple harvesting season.
The festival is the biggest yearly event of the Vanier Museopark, which features Canada’s only urban sugar shack. Visitors can sample maple syrup fresh from the tree as well as other maple-derived products like taffy and candy. Local artists will create an atmosphere with musical performances and a collective art project. There will also be lumberjack skills competitions and other showcases of traditional crafts and hobbies.
The month of the Sugar Festival will kick off the 19th edition of the Soup(e) Splash event. Later in the month, there will be Family and Community Days at the park featuring a full festival programming. This year’s programming includes a miniature farm, inflatable games, and an exhibit on First Nations culture.
The Sugar Festival is a free community event supported by Museopark funding. Visitors can make a cash donation or purchase a branded Maple Festival toque or beanie to support future events. The 2025 Vanier Sugar Festival will take place at Vanier Museopark from March 28 to 29, with the Soup(e) Splash on March 9.
