Ottawa event to rock the Blok

Ottawa will be hosting a one-day festival this September, dedicated to hip-hop and youth art.

The festival, called Blok Jam, will feature a continuous stream of DJs and rap artists taking to the stage, looking to show off their skills. Performers include High Klassified, DJ Jon Deck, and QUATA QUATA, with more to be revealed. There will also be “breaking” battles with B-boys and B-girls squaring off in dance, and rap battles between cyphers and slam artists.

The festival site will be divided into six areas across a single block, including a Main Stage Music Zone, an open dance floor, and a bar. Street artists will be creating murals live, with workshops on how to develop artistic skills and more. There will also be a vendor’s market with food, drink art and merchandise from local creators. Vendors at events like this often offer special deals or Promotional Products to make an impression with a new audience.

Performances and workshops will be free throughout the day, followed by a ticketed afterparty. BlokJam is hosted with the support of the City of Ottawa through its Community Civic Event Grant program. The festival aims to highlight youth performances and emerging artists, using the slogan:

“The act of creation is an act of belonging.”

BlokJam will take place on September 5 at ByWard Market Square in Ottawa.
