A local program in Mississauga will repurpose Halloween decor once the spooky celebration is over.
The staff and volunteers at Carol’s Animal Sanctuary and Rescue provide a safe haven for domestic pets and livestock that have been through a tough time. Last year, it initiated its “Pumpkins for Pigs” program, and it was so successful that the decision was made to bring it back for another year.
The public has been asked to drop off their uncarved Halloween or Thanksgiving pumpkins at the sanctuary once they are no longer needed, and these will be used to provide a special meal for its resident pigs. These pigs have been rescued from homes where they were abused or neglected, but now live out their days in comfort at the facility, cared for by many helping hands.
A program like this not only helps to feed hungry animals, but it also keeps unwanted pumpkins out of landfills. Stationery printers can supply printed mailers to send out to local households so that they will be aware of how, when and where they can get involved with such a program.
The second annual Pumpkins for Pigs collection days will be November 4th and November 5th. More details, including where the collection point will be set up, can be found by contacting the organization through its website.
