For the past 13 years, the Mississauga News Santa Claus Fund has been helping to make the holidays brighter for people across the community, and this upcoming holiday will be no exception.
In order to lend a helping hand to those in need, the organization will be delivering Boxes to families across the city. The contents will include mittens, a hat, socks, a warm shirt and also some special treats such as a candy and a small toy or book. Those who are meant for children over four will include a toothbrush and toothpaste, while those for infants will include baby supplies.
Metroland South vice president Dana Dobbins remarked that playing Santa by delivering the parcels is one of the highlights of the holiday season for her, and that she really enjoys being able to help put a smile on a child’s face.
Last year, the organization was able to deliver gift boxes to 3,800 children in Mississauga. All told, 45,000 of them will be handed out throughout the GTA. Volunteers fill each one by hand, and they are then delivered right to the recipient’s door. A printer can produce cheerful Holiday Cards that can be included in each parcel.
