The annual Santa Claus Fund charity drive has almost met its target for the year. Run jointly by the Toronto Star newspaper and the Mississauga News, the campaign has generated $1.42 million, putting the organizers very close to their goal of $1.6 million.
The money has been gathered through the generosity of citizens throughout the GTA, with a large portion coming as a result of the grassroots efforts of local groups and individuals.
One such organization is the King’s Club from the Mississauga neighborhood of Cooksville. The group is made up of the residents of an apartment building who worked together to collect as much as they could. They managed to raise $305, which was then donated to the fund.
One of the members chose to help as she remembered growing up during the Great Depression and how difficult Christmas can be for low-income families. She wanted to help to make sure that things would be different today.
The money is used to put together gift Boxes containing food, toys, clothing, Books, and some candy. They will be distributed to 3,500 families in Mississauga and another 41,000 in the surrounding GTA.
Coming together like this to support a good cause can make a big difference to people in need. Using the services of a Print company to produce materials like Posters and Flyers can help to make such a campaign even more of a success.
Donations are still being accepted, and anyone wishing to contribute can do so by visiting the Toronto Star website or by calling its offices directly.
