Community pool expansion wins award

Athletic Business Magazine recently honored Mississauga’s Clarkson Community Pool expansion project. The city and project architects received the prestigious ‘Facility of Merit’ award at the Annual Athletic Business conference in New Orleans.

The innovative design of the long awaited pool expansion has been welcomed by residents. The new plans will include a pool and a library; the design will also link the building with walking trails and a skate park. The building will be flooded with natural light too, increasing its presence in the surrounding area.

The grounds of the center will be beautifully landscaped, and will provide seating and bicycle parking for residents and visitors. It is hoped these additions will encourage increased participation in community activities at the center. Brochure printers have produced leaflets and other materials to help keep the public abreast of the latest developments in the expansion.

Athletics Business Magazine has received international recognition and is considered the industry leader in providing information about professional issues related to recreation and sport, as well as details of new athletic building designs and products. The decision to present the award to the Clarkson Community Pool expansion was made by a panel of experts in the field of sport and recreation facility design in Chicago. Winners had their projects and designs featured in the December issue of their online magazine.

The city invited community input into the expansion, and the partnership between the building’s designers, city residents and other stakeholders has resulted in a project the whole area can be proud of.
