City holds celebration opening of new transit stations

Residents of Mississauga recently got a chance to celebrate the grand opening of the city’s new Mississauga Transitway.

Those who came out were treated to light refreshments, prize giveaways, and a special bus tour of the four brand new stations. So many attended that extra buses had to be called out to accommodate everyone who showed up to take part.

The Cawthra Road, Central Parkway , Tompkin Road, and Dixie Road stations will be the first of a total of 12 , all of which are planned to be in operation by 2017. This represents the first rapid transit system in the city, and will connect it with other local transportation systems, such as the TTC.

Those who took part in the celebration were each given a commemorative passport that they could have stamped at each of the stops on the new line. There were also prize draws, with the winners being given a preloaded Presto card or a pair of headphones.

It’s felt that this new rapid transit line will make it easier for people to get around the city, and also for those who live outside it to access all that it has to offer. The hope is that it will be a boon for local businesses, which will have a new customer base. This will, in turn, provide spin off benefits for the establishments, such as Print companies, that provide support to local firms.
