Canopy to honor green printers

Being environmentally sustainable as a printer these days is just as important as being economically sustainable, and Canopy, a not-for-profit organization, has announced this month that it will honor Canada’s greenest printers in a bid to help protect the world’s forests. Its 2012 ballots are open for printers in all across Canada to enter.

This may be of particular interest to Print companies and residents of Missisauga, since representatives from the city were in Toronto on Friday, October 26 to sign the Declaration on Clean Air and Climate Change. With the city clearly focused on environmentalism, printers in the area will no doubt be keen to follow suit.

The 2012 award is entitled the ‘Ancient Forest Friendly Awards’ and will recognize printing companies who have improved their paper purchasing policies and implemented company-wide policies to help support forest conservation. The award is designed to help protect climate, biodiversity, and ancient forests.

Implementing environmentally sustainable practices not only good business practice – it also boosts demands in services, according to Canopy and printing services industry experts. The Ancient Forest Friendly Awards are designed to show both competitors and customers that entrants are determined to convert their words into actions when it comes to reducing corporate ecological footprints.

Winners will also have an opportunity to promote their achievements through Canopy’s widely respected website, various social media channels, and the organization’s e-newsletter. Canopy will also provide building brand support as well as education about risks and issues that face the paper supply chain.
