The Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement, which was unveiled in Toronto, relates to the use and treatment of 72 hectares of public forest that have been licensed to the member companies of the Forest Products Association of Canada.
The aim of this agreement when it is fully put into effect is to conserve sizable portions of Canada’s Boreal Forest, give participating companies an edge that is competitive-friendly, and also offer protection to endangered woodland caribou. The agreement centers around Forest Products Association of Canada member companies because they currently manage 67 percent of all the forest land in Canada. The Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement subjects its member companies to forest stewardship that is of the highest, environmental standards, and the area they are charged with managing is approximately twice the size of the country of Germany.
Some of the obligations of the agreement include the implementation of some of the world’s most leading harvesting practices and forest management; a carbon management approach that is full life cycle-based; and the achievement of joint proposals for plots of protected areas and the recovery of endangered species.
