London Shoebox Project for Shelters concludes soon

The 2017 London-based Shoebox Project hopes to collect 2,000 presents for at-risk women and the local homeless during the festive season.

All residents are encouraged to participate in this important charity, which helps some of the city’s most vulnerable feel less isolated.

Recent census data estimates that about 46% of single mothers and 20% of children in London are living in poverty. It is estimated that half of all immigrants in the London area are living at or below the poverty line.

Each shoebox is unique in design but should have about a $50 value. There are many simple, everyday items that can be included, like hats and gloves, subway tokens and bus tickets, hand lotion and tissues, or cough drops. Most importantly, every person participating is encouraged to write and include a simple message of support and inspiration for the women receiving the gift.

Detailed instructions on wrapping and filling your shoebox are available on the website, but may also be provided in Brochures and Flyers.

Dream supports the Shoebox Project for shelters, by collecting and distributing the gifts throughout the city’s shelters. All donations are needed by next Monday, December 18th. The shoeboxes can be brought to any of the approved drop-off locations, including New Balance London, Allstate Canada, Great West Life, Annie's Chocolates, Spicer's Bakery and TD Bank.
