London North’s Aeolian Hall Performing Arts Centre has announced that it will be holding a song-writing contest with major prizes.
The competition is intended to celebrate London’s designation as a UNESCO City of Music. It has a prize fund of $25,000, which has been supplied by sponsors. The competition, which is intended to become an annual event, asks for songs in all genres reflecting the themes of home, love and beauty. Submissions will be judged by a panel of industry experts.
The grand prize will include $2,000 in cash, a recording session, a multitrack recording, a performance before a live audience, a photo shoot and career mentoring, with these elements totalling $9,500 in value.
There will also be second and third prizes providing both cash and career opportunities. The contest is open to both professional and amateur musicians, and it is open to co-writing, as well as having an artist perform music written by another. Songs can be recorded on a phone or any other type of equipment, but they must be previously unpublished and unrecorded. Contests like this often use tools like brochure printing and online advertising to attract entries.
The Aeolian Hall song-writing contest will be open for submissions via the venue’s website or physical deposit of a USB stick until March 31. The winners will be announced during Canadian Music Week between April 19 and 23.
