London game shop launches Slow Grow league

London’s Game Knight shop is bringing back its in-person game nights, including a new long-term league for the popular Warhammer 40,000 (40k) game.

Warhammer 40k involves players collecting and hand-painting detailed miniatures from a world that mixes science-fiction and fantasy, then pitting them against another player’s army in a tactical battle. The new tournament at Game Knight will be a “Slow Grow” league that runs over the course of 10 months, with each participating player facing each other once. The league will involve a variety of mission types and is designed to mimic the more narrative-driven campaign of tabletop roleplaying games.

Game Knight’s Slow Grow league can accommodate up to 40 players and is designed to welcome gamers back to the store and be accessible to newcomers. The registration fee includes a membership, which allows access to resources like brushes to paint the miniatures.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Game Knight also hosted weekly events for games such as Blood Bowl, Dungeons & Dragons, Dropfleet Commander and assorted board games. Leagues and tournaments, typically promoted through flyer printing and online advertising, can double as social gatherings for tabletop gaming enthusiasts.

The Warhammer 40k Slow Grow league is scheduled to start in the coming months at Game Knight’s London North-area Adelaide Street location, which also contains a licensed bar and bistro kitchen.
