London film festival announces 2021 slate

The Forest City Film Festival has announced its line-up for next month’s event, showcasing an eclectic array of local and international productions, and residents of London North are invited to attend.

The event is the sixth annual edition of the festival, and it marks the return of a live audience to in-person cinemas. The event will include competitions between feature narratives and documentaries, as well as formats like animated shorts, experimental films and music videos.

Among the competing features are the dark comedy The Kid Detective, starring Adam Brody, and the Indigenous-directed Beans, based off the real-life Oka Crisis. The selected documentaries will deal with topics ranging from cryptocurrency to acrobatics.

All in all, there will be 95 films screened across the London area. There will also be a number of supporting events, such as question-and-answer sessions with filmmakers, a Mix & Mingle party designed for networking and Flashback Friday, which showcases older films with a connection to Southwestern Ontario. In addition to providing a treat for movie fans, film festivals are often crucial for networking within the industry, with business card printing often as much a part of preparation as filming and editing.

The 2021 edition of the Forest City Film Festival will take place between October 19 and October 30 at various venues throughout the city, including the Fanshawe Good Foundation Theatre, Wolf Performance Hall and the Tap Centre for Creativity.
